Aer Lingus Golf Society, Hon Secretary Report 2023 (03 Jan 24)
Firstly, I would like to start by acknowledging the sad passing of Frank Doyle on 09 Sept 23 and Des Gunning on 13 Sept 23. Frank and Des were active members of the society over the years. May they Rest in Peace. The unusually wet season disrupted our schedule for 2023. Our Presidents prize scheduled for Malahide was curtailed by an unprecedented storm and was rescheduled for Corrstown. The Corrstown outing was then cancelled due to heavy rain and the Presidents Prize was eventually played at Skerries Golf Club. Green Fee Payments:
A number of clubs have facilitated us by allowing members to pay their green fees individually prior to play. This has reduced the workload on the starters and is a welcome development. Hopefully, next year this system will extend to other clubs.
Captains Board:
A new portable Roll Up Banner which lists all the Captains since the foundation of the Aer Lingus Golf Society in 1948 was generously sponsored by a number of members. This banner is an interesting history of the Captains who were involved in the Aer Lingus Golf Society and associated companies since 1948.
A sincere thank you to everyone on the committee who assisted during the year, our starters, those who assisted with the cards, and all the other tasks too numerous to mention.
Also, a special note of thanks to our Treasurer, John O’Keeffe who has the unenviable task of managing the finances. I would like to wish the new committee all the best for 2024
